Workshops
From From Birth For Life
We have developed these six workshops to help you inform and train other child care practitioners in your workplace, at conferences or community events in the key elements of how young children, from birth to age six, learn language and literacy. You (and your participants) may also want to use some of the handouts included here with the parents of the children in your care.
These workshops may be used separately or in a series, but we recommend you start with Workshop 1 to ensure everyone understands the basics of language and literacy development. Because Workshop 2 and 3 deal with different aspects of the same topic, we also recommend you offer these two workshops together.
Each workshop will take about two-and-a-half hours. All are intended to help child care practitioners come up with practical and effective ways to encourage language and literacy in children, at their child care centres, with parents and throughout their communities.
